I have been going through the website for the past few days, and decided to implement OpenDNS address on my Windows 2003 server. My issue is that i support about 120+ users, and i use vnc to connect to the desktop by name. Now when i try to VNC into a machine, it doesn't work. Is there a way to get around this? i have added a few names on the typo correction list, but i don't want to enter all the names.

    Typo exceptions are hierarchical.

If you enter example.com then foo.example.com and bar.example.com are also covered.

Check your Typo Exceptions list and try to be _less_ specific and see if that solves the problem.

    Thanks.

Well I entered the computer names (ie, vclassics, ntserver2) it works fine, but each pc on the network is named for the individual user (120+ users). So i am unable to connect to their machine by name. In addition I added a machine name to the typo exception, but its still not working. I flushed DNS, with out any success. Once i disabled typo correction everything worked.

I presume your W2K server is still your network's primary DNS with Open DNS set as your secondary DNS server? That's how it ought to be in order to resolve internal DNS.

I followed the directions on OpenDNS for setting up the DNS. I entered the 2 DNS address on the forwarders tab in the dns server properties. How do i set it up as a secondary DNS?
    Thanks

EDIT: I have another w2k3 server and it is set up as a secondary/backup DNS server

I think you can add the server IP, as reachable by the other clients. I am not 100% sure about that, but that is what I think is right.

    1. Goto properties of LAN connection
    2. Goto properties of TCP/IP protocol
    3. Click on Advanced button
    4. Goto DNS tab
    5. Click on Add, Type in Server IP, Click on Add
    6. Prioritize the Server IP to the top of the list by clicking the up arrow button

    -- edit

Maybe the clients need a DHCP refresh

Well after doing some investigative work, I noticed that one ip of my server was on the network tab. I ended up adding the ip range for my T1, and it working better now. It seems to be resolving most of the names, but not all.
