    Imagine how excited I was when today, I saw: Tales from the DNSCrypt: Linux Rising
    by David Ulevitch, Founder/CEO. at:

    SO, I d/l'd the .deb (32-bit) for my Ubuntu 'puter and went to the Ubuntu Software Center to install it.

    I received a very odd message from Ubuntu, which said:

    The package is of bad quality - The installation of a package which violates the quality standres ins't allowed. This could cause serious problems on your computer. Please contact the person or organisation who provided this package file and include the details, beneath.

    Which are:

    Lintian check results for /home/mark/Downloads/dnscrypt-proxy_0.9_i386.deb:
    Use of uninitialized value $ENV{"HOME"} in concatenation (.) or string at /usr/bin/lintian line 112.
    E: dnscrypt-proxy: maintainer-name-missing <root@debian>
    E: dnscrypt-proxy: maintainer-address-malformed <root@debian>

    SO, will someone tell me what is going on here? I'm not a programmer. And I cannot afford to harm my DNS/Network, etc.

    You're lucky. I was able to install it using the instructions provided and now cannot connect to Internet. Cannot get my old settings back, either.

    The errors about the Debian package on Ubuntu can safely be ignored.

    If installing the package using the Ubuntu Software Center doesn't work, you can install it using the command line with "sudo dpkg -i dnscrypt-proxy_0.9_i386.deb".

    The package just installs a new command (/usr/sbin/dnscrypt-proxy). It doesn't change anything to your network settings.
    If you want to stop it, you can type sudo pkill dnscrypt-proxy

    all you have to do is change one of the DNS number from .1 to .2

    HOWEVER, I have NOT installed this software yet, as I'm waiting for a response at the Ubuntu Forums about the bad code msg.

    I'm unsure as to the cause of the first message, which does not, however, indicate "bad code" or "bad quality". It still works just fine, and all that is installed is a command binary which you must actually use for it to do anything.

    E: dnscrypt-proxy: maintainer-address-malformed <root@debian>"

    Well, the package doesn't come from Ubuntu or Debian upstream, does it? If you want that to be different, ask the upstream maintainers to adopt the code.

    The "bad quality" message Ubuntu reports has been fixed (see https://github.com/opendns/dnscrypt-proxy/commit/831fb41e304231f29de8e33ab637b5dd768c5e7c and https://github.com/jordansissel/fpm/pull/159 )

    New packages will be uploaded soon, but it won't make any real difference. The proxy will be exactly the same.
