OpenDNS services: Facebook Chat gone

    Hi there,

    I own a D-Link DIR-645 Router and implemented OpenDNS. At the moment all Filters are off. Somehow (except in Opera) I'm not able to load Facebook chat.

    Anybody knows what's going on?

    Any error message or other symptoms? Why do you think it is related to OpenDNS? Does it work without OpenDNS?

    No Error Messages, no other symptoms.

    After login Facebook loads fine except the right-chat-sidebar stays grey with "Loading...".

    Whenever I change DNS IP back to my ISP DNS IP it starts to work again after a restart.. Ergo I suspect it has something to do with openDNS cacheing..

    (Tried it in Windows 7 64 bit as well as Linux Mint 12 64 bit with Opera, Firefox & Chromium)

    For some reason in Opera the switch to openDNS IPs has an effect only roughly 5 mins afterwards..

    Wow.. if I use https instead of http it works..

    (Just went on to account settings on Facebook and suddenly the chat loaded...)

    OpenDNS as DNS service caches only name resolution results, not web content, so hard to believe this being the root cause. Your symtoms are related to the "phone lines", not the "phone book" DNS.

    You must disable turbo mode in Opera, else it doesn't use the DNS service defined by you (OpenDNS or another) at all, but the caching servers of Opera. Chrome has similar problems.

    Another indication that your problem is unrelated to DNS.

    You may want to raise dig/nslookup for the domain in question against OpenDNS and the other DNS service to see if there are differences.
