DNS-O-Matic / dynamic IPs: OpenDNS Updater Client / Updating network IP issues
Bottom of Page1 to 2 of 2

We have OpenDNS VIP in whitelist only mode. We have two Windows 7 computers with all network adapters are configured with the OpenDNS DNS IP addresses and the OpenDNS dyanamic IP updater software installed and signed in to the account. The computers connect to a Verizon MIFI card that changes IP addresses daily (each time it gets turned back on).
The issue is that DNS queries are not getting filtered if the computers are on and the MIFI changes IP addresses. It seems the OpenDNS updater client does not update/send the new network IP address until those computers are rebooted, then the DNS queries are getting filtered properly again.
Any ideas on what we may have done improperly so that any IP change will be updated to our OpenDNS network immediately and filtering continues without requiring a reboot of the computers? -
Have you checked "Send Dns-o-Matic updates" in the settings? Don't do it!
Next thing will be to look at the Updater logs, usually located in "%APPDATA%\OpenDNS Updater", especially log.txt. Don't open them with Notepad, but with Wordpad, UltraEdit or Notepad++, because they are in Unix format.
If you can't find the reason there why it is not working, try another updater, e.g. http://updater.marc-hoersken.de/ to see if it works.
