Hi,
Firstly, thanks for the great service you guys are providing (aimed at OpenDNS admins)...now I can be assured of safe surfing for my family members.
I'm facing a problem though...I've blocked video sharing sites, so youtube shouldn't appear, right?
Sometimes, I find that it gets through (...and I keep "testing" OpenDNS time and again...call it OCD
).
I try the DNS flushing thing, clearing up my browsers cache, clearing the cookies, and what not....but it still sometimes happens. It's not just youtube, that's pretty harmless compared to some adult sites, or even phishing sites.
I'm quite concerned about this...OpenDNS is cool, it lets me control what cannot be seen, but I'm worried that it goes "off" sometimes.
FYI, I use the OpenDNS updater since my ISP provides dynamic IP addresses.
Any help or comments appreciated.
Cheers. -
The only reason I can see for this type of problem is your IP address is changing very often. You should check your IP often to confirm if this is the cause. Your IP address is in the upper right corner of most OpenDNS pages (look up).
You can also check your IP by going to:

Thanks for the reply.
Well, yes, as I mentioned, my IP address is dynamically assigned each time I connect to the network. But, surely, the OpenDNS Updater has been created to serve the purpose of syncing the new IP address to my settings, right? -
There should be a setting in the Updater for how often you want to check for IP change. I would suggest you set this to a minimum time and see how it works.
Good luck.
edit: maybe download latest version. Might help.

I have the same problem. Use Verizon and they change the ip constantly. I use the software and have dynamic ip set, but neither work correctly. Also the software should be toggled on and controllable in admin mode, but users can play with it when logged on as a user. Is ther going to be an update for this? Is there a way to get a block list for the sites so I can block them in the host file, since the category settings is lost each time an ip change happens?
Thanks -

@mamazitta:
Yeah, I always keep such things as small as possible, so it's set at 5 minutes.
...And, yes, I've got the latest version, so that can't be the problem either. Hopefully, there'll be some update for this.
Thanks & Cheers. -
I am having the same problem :(.

I use static ip`s , and i still dont get open dns to kick in , i tried clearing cache , flush dns , everything
-
You're not using any alternate DNS sources are you in case OpenDNS goes down? I've seen this happen on a system where they were using OpenDNS as the first two entries and had a third and fourth DNS server entry from their ISP. Since the ISP sometimes resolved the entries it would sometimes resolve and sometimes be blocked.
