Hello friends,
This problem has been troubling me for quite sometime now. I could not open some websites. These websites include myspace(the webpage opens but the videos just wouldn't load),a local newspaper's site, etc.I get a "DNS Error" page.
I've tried flushing my DNS cache, used Page Fix, Open DNS but none of them seems to be working. You know the strange thing is that these blocked websites can be browse or open in my mobile(I am using mobile as modem to connect to internet).
Some of my friends from other forums who are using other ISPs can browse these websites. One of these websites is http://www.gosms.in/.
One of these friends suggest that it could be a router problem since I can browse these blocked websites on my mobile.
Any experts here who can help with this problem and who may have a little bit of routing knowledge. -
For some reason OpenDNS automatically blocks lads.myspace.com which is the subdomain that serves up myspace video. You have to add that address to the white list if you want to see video on myspace.
Oh, wait. Do you have this problem when not using OpenDNS? It sounds like you do if I'm reading correctly. If that is the case, then check your hosts file. Make sure there aren't any erroneous entries. It's located:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hostsfaq.htm is a little FAQ about the HOSTS file. -
Administratordiacon, OpenDNS does not "automatically block" anything but phishing sites.

Sorry to bump this but does lads.myspace.com block the flash audio player seen in artist pages? -

Apparently it DOES block the audio and video players. Whitelisted! -
MikeD,
For some reason it gets blocked and you have to white list it. Not sure why, just my experience with the problem. -
Administratordiacon: Do you have Adware or Music blocked? lads.myspace.com is part of both categories and would be blocked on your network. See http://domain.opendns.com/lads.myspace.com
-
Yep, Adware. Didn't think it would be under that category as it's pretty integral to MySpace's music and video for their pages. I white listed it anyway for the one client who actually uses MySpace.
I will say it did take me a little bit to figure out why music and video wasn't showing on MySpace. It's not easily apparent what is getting blocked just by looking at the page. Not saying OpenDNS is at fault. Just the way the stuff gets embedded to MySpace makes it tough to find the proper sub domain. I wouldn't have though of the "Adware" category as the culprit.
Good to know that is what triggers it. Thanks Cory.
