It appears that google.navigation.opendns.com is down at both addresses of 208.67.217.231 and 208.67.217.230. All of my users cant get to google.

Also what is the deal with google.navigation.opendns.com, why does opendns hijack google?

It is working now, but no longer resolves to OpenDns's hijack.

    Before:
    C:\>tracert www.google.com
    Tracing route to google.navigation.opendns.com [208.67.217.231]

    Now:
    C:\>tracert www.google.com
    Tracing route to www.l.google.com [74.125.19.104]

wonderful. It is working now and you are correct no more redirect to the hijack.

David, can you please leave this alone and just provide dns resolution to google the way it is intended to be done. Or at least provide the option of toggling the feature on and off for those that want it.

    Thanks

Your question why OpenDNS "hi-jack" Google is answered here: http://blog.opendns.com/2007/05/22/google-turns-the-page/
    And here: http://forums.opendns.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=226#Item_18

And the option of toggling this feature on and off:
    Go to https://www.opendns.com/dashboard/settings/ "Advanced Settings".
The last config point "Enable OpenDNS proxy" is probably what you are looking for.

my problem is that i use the content filtering which requires the open dns proxy to be on.

I would like to have the option to turn the open dns proxy off but still have the ability to use the content filtering.

As I can see from your previous entry, your problems with reaching Google are gone. So, why would you still want to disable the OpenDNS proxy? Whatever, if you insist doing so, just do it. Although shortcuts may no longer work, I could not find an indication that disabling the proxy would also disable filtering: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/244
Where did you get this information from?

Go into your dashboard for one of your networks and go to advanced and turn off the opendns proxy. Then go back to the content filtering option right above the link for the advanced options, you will then see a message that states "Content filtering requires both typo correction and opendns proxy to be enabled" then you can click the link below and it will take you to the advanced settings to enable those two options.

So indeed both are required for content filtering to work. In a perfect world content filtering wouldnt be dependent upon the opendns proxy.

Thanks for this information. I would like to suggest to add this requirement to the idea bank and also to open a support ticket with OpenDNS.

Seems to be down again today. Does anyone know what the problem is with this service? Does opendns have any redundency in place for this service.
