my security program says it has blocked a port scan comming from 208.67.222.222 which is of course open dns servers. is open dns doing port scans and is it ok that it is getting blocked.
-
AdministratorYour "security program" is reporting false positives. OpenDNS does not do port scans of any type. What your application is blocking is responses to DNS queries you have sent us.

Get rid of anything Norton/Symantic, and many problems will be solved. There are many freeware and opensource alternatives, that will beat the freebie stuff your ISP provides on all security leak tests.

Indeed! I find that Avast and Spyware Terminator are an excellent combination...and are both FREE!!!

Do a Google Search On
CLAMWIN or CLAMAV
That will fix your problems and it's free. -
AVG, Anti-Vir, ClamAV, I steer clear of Avast, can't rember what caused it. So I might give it a go sometime again.
Comodo has a good (very flexible) software firewall, that's free. IIRC it was #1 or 2 overall up against all the major offerings (software walls).
I thought Spyware Terminator was slow (maybe I need a hardware upgrade, lol), but defidently better than the old Spybot. I see SuperAnti Spyware & ASquared getting good reviews to ad the the Spyware Terminator recommendation. It seems like everything has an anti-malware/spyware feature any more. Comodo, AVG 8, Glary utilities (sytem tuner/cleaner), CCleaner, etc)
Between OpenDNS, my hardware, software, HOSTS, ad block/anti tracking filters and blocked cookies. I don't get much, if any spyware or see any ads, in a day. Atleast ads that are not site spefic. I.e. hosted on the same domain, on an unknown site. I scan very regularly, daily at a minimum as a precaution.
