I'd like to be able to block some domains during the week (Mon-Fri), but allow them at the weekend. There's also some that need to be blocked Sunday night through to Thursday night. (Friday/Saturday is OK, no school on a Saturday or Sunday.)

I'd like to be able to allow between, say, 15:00 and 22:00 (local time) but block after 22:00 (local time).

Some domains could have a weekly schedule, some a daily schedule, some an ad-hoc schedule.

Hmmmm... food for thought. The UI might be the hardest part... and the question of how many people would take advantage of this extra power. Are others interested? Any insight as to uses?

At work we block pandora internet radio because of how much bandwith it tends to use, even with traffic shaping, however at night, it would be nice to be able to turn it back on for the few employees left.

Best use I can see, is to block gaming sites and such during the week days.

I think it sounds cool. Usually at work you cant do things personal on "company time" but after hours, it shouldnt be a big deal to allow myspace or whatever. For parents, they could block "Worldofwarcraft.com" during certain times when their kids shouldnt be playing or whatever the case may be.

    I like the idea :)

I think it could be a great add-on to the already discussed potential ability to "toggle" blocked domains.

Great Idea! I use it all the time with the iBoss hardware device.

The Instant One-Touch Internet Wake-up/Sleep Control is great as it lets you completly put the internet to sleep and wake it up during certain times of the day.

Would be nice to have these features with OpenDNS

i think it sounds like a good idea. Here at work, we really don't want users to browse the net for personal use (although some is okay as long as it doesn't interfere with their work). But it'd be nice to be able to block for say...myspace.com from 7am till 1130am then again from 130pm till 5pm...idk just a thought.

I would love this feature, to allow facebook to be unblocked during lunchtime hours would save me have to block and unblock it every single day!

I am all for this idea as well.

Being a programmer myself, I have an idea of how the user interface would look.

Create a new tab on our dashboard called "Schedules". Within this tab, you create schedules that you want to use, such as Mon-Fri from 8:00am - 5:00pm, or Mon - Fri all day. That is the whole function of that tab, just to create schedules.

Now, on each of the domains you add, and each of the categories you can choose from, add a dropdown menu. From that dropdown menu, you can choose what schedule to apply to each block.

    Sounds like a good idea?

This would be very useful at my school. It is a private boarding school. I would love to ban game sites during school hours but allow them outside of that.

The ability to set a schedule would be wonderful. We have neighbors that use our network (we leave it open), and I have to block quite a bit at night, but during the day, my work requires me to have to access to sites that may have questionable content.

Agreed, this would be a great feature - for lunchimes and after hours, when staff can use the net for personal use (Myspace, Hotmail, etc).

Although this feature would really need a time zone option to ensure times are in keeping with your particular time zone.

I too am looking to block sites during "main working hours", but allow them during lunchtime, before work, etc.

This idea obviously has support behind it. Why has it been a running post for over year with no feedback from OpenDNS on implementation?

    I echo what CommentAuthorcomputerwiz12890 says.

I would like to specify periods (say 6 max) with a corresponding unique content filtering setting for each. For each period I would be able to select the day(s) of the week it is in effect. That way kids can have access to social network on weekends and outside of core homework periods.

I agree with this. I would use it, my son is in cyber school and I want to block all the time-wasters during the week and lift it on the weekends, possibly weekday evenings too.
