Sometime in the last day or 2 we stopped being able to get www.facebook.com. The generic "You tried to visit www.facebook.com, which is not loading" page comes up. The site is (and has always been) in the excluded(never block) list and we're using custom filters with social networking unchecked.

I tried disabling filtering across the board and this made no difference. If I change my DNS entries to point to my ISP's DNS servers I can get to facebook just fine. Any ideas?

Aye, check the links rotblitz posted. And from the message displayed ("not loading") does not indicate that the site is blocked, it indicates that it is resolved, but not loading.

CacheCheck shows all the correct IPs. I fail to see where the problem could be except in OpenDNS. When I ping www.facebook.com (which doesn't require any http page to be loaded) I get 208.69.36.132 - an OpenDNS server, NOT any of facebook's IPs. Furthermore, if changing to my default ISP DNS servers causes the page to load just fine, what else could it be?

208.69.36.132 is hit-nxdomain.opendns.com, i.e. facebook.com could not be resolved for you.
Something is wrong with especially your configuration. Nobody else seems to face this problem. Only OpenDNS can check it. Open a ticket at http://www.opendns.com/support/contact/

For what it's worth, this morning it's back to working fine.

Stopped working for me over the weekend and seems intermittent. If I use my ISP it works fine. Opendns also blocking my yahoo email! Had this problem since Monday after not using my pc over the weekend so definately nothing changed in my config. Have got it to work once since on the same night, but didnt do anything other than change to ISP DNS (which is pants) and back again, but ever since no joy.

I have no filters set and have even specified no filters on the two domains with no joy. Any clues?

Site blocked. uk.mg40.mail.yahoo.com is not allowed on this network.

Site blocked. facebook.com is not allowed on this network.

Weird. Picking up on my ISP's own network settings for their staff or something maybe? Clutching at straws

Compare your IP address from http://myip.dnsomatic.com/ to the one at https://www.opendns.com/dashboard/networks/ - they are not the same, are they?
You are probably using the settings of another OpenDNS user...

When I try to enter my IP address as a network it says it already exists. So it does look like someone else might be using it. Not sure how I get around this now.

Ah I see this has occurred before when searching through the forum. No response to my support ticket as yet though. Quite how someone has over ridden my settings that have been in use for months I'm not sure though....Maybe allocated new address by ISP I suppose

Most home networks have dynamic IP addresses from their ISPs. Disconnect from the internet, wait for let's say 15 minutes, and reconnect to see if you got another IP address assigned. Then try with this IP address to update your OpenDNS network. Also, I recommend to keep the OpenDNS Updater running, so that you timely keep your OpenDNS network updated.

"I see this has occurred before when searching through the forum"
Yes, unfortunately very often now, as the user population increases. There are too many OpenDNS users not keeping their IP addresses updated at OpenDNS, but unnecessarily reserving them. Other users picking them up then are forced to use someone else's settings...

I think I have a static address as my router is turned off every night for several hours. It is a cable modem and I cannot access it to release/renew IP address if it is indeed dynamic. It may well be on a 2 week refresh or something like that. I will keep an eye on it. I will have to wait until I see a change of address and try adding a network then. If memory serves the only network I had listed and that I have now deleted was from an old location in Thailand, so it wasn't using that.

I will contact ISP support to get them to refresh the address.

If I reserve it and set dynamic with the updater running, am I right in thinking that this could still happen anyway if I get another already reserved address?

    Thanks for your help

    Unfortunately, it could.

Maybe OpenDNS will be quicker in releasing your current IP address than your ISP in assigning a new one. It may have to wait over the weekend. But on Monday...

Edit: If you are talking to your ISP, you may ask for a static IP address then at this occasion. This would really help here.
