I had a problem with using shortcuts when I used Firefox, but not when using Opera or Internet Explorer. If I ie. typed "ws" which I have made a shortcut for, I was just redirected to "www.ws.com", which was not correct.
I gave up on it and started using the bookmarks feature in Firefox, but being on several computers in the same home, it was trivial to add each bookmark on all PCs.

Lately I reinstalled one of my machines, and just checked out to see if shortcuts were working in Firefox, and they did!, but only until I installed my usual list of Firefox extensions. After I've been testing a little it seemed like it was the extension "Tabbrowser Preferences" which was causing the trouble:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/158

So I thought, why not inform everybody else here who may have problems with shortcuts, what was the problem for you, and how you got it working? :)

Feel free to add up with anything which could break this behavior.

Not sure, but I know my stepdad has a fairly vanilla Firefox install running, and shortcuts don't work on his computer.....

But it could be because he blocked the opendns.com cookie; no idea why :P Maybe he got mad at it, since he couldn't access some sites lol.

"Tab Mix Plus" is another Firefox extension that can cause shortcuts to fail. The culprit seems to be "Open tabs from: Address bar" in Tab Mix Plus Options/Events/Tab Opening. When checked, shortcuts fail. Uncheck it and they work again.

Interesting. I'm having just the opositr problem. Shortcuts work great in my Firefox 3 browser, but they do not work in my IE 6 browser. Is there a setting that I should check in IE 6?

I'm having this currently with IE7, but do not really care.

Here are instructions to make it work:
    IE6: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/122
    IE7: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/121

I'd like to point out that shortcuts (i.e.: my "whois opendns.com" for samspade.org, nor my "myspace" shortcut which directs to the "real" myspace page) do not work in "Google Chrome" - which is in beta, and sports the "Omnibox" - I dont know if the Omnibox is the cause or not though.
