As of last night I'm getting this error at home and at work when I use the OpenDNS servers and try to access Google:
---
We're sorry...
... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.
We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.
---
Anyone else seeing this? -

Are you using the "plain 'ol" Google URL? (i.e. www.google.com)
Try www.l.google.com to see if it works. (that's an "L")
(I think it bypasses OpenDNS' current Google redirection scheme) -

Yeah... just: www.google.com
It's my home page. It at least has as captcha to bypass the page, but I get it again with each new session. -
ah-ha! I bet that's what is doing it! I have the google toolbar installed, and I use the "Google button" to access google.com, and was getting this "error" lol...and I know my comp is fairly clean :P

Re: " ... ah-ha! I bet that's what is doing it! ..."
While purely my own speculation, my hunch is that Google is seeing the OpenDNS redirects as some sort of automated attack ...
... if it's not outright retaliation for David Ulevitch's editorial at http://blog.opendns.com/2007/05/22/google-turns-the-page/ !
I've not seen any of these types of errors and I use the www.l.google.com URL exclusively (thereby avoiding the automated OpenDNS redirect). -
FYI, if you don't use OpenDNS's shortcut feature, you can turn it off and it will stop intercepting Google.

I also got that error page late Sunday evening. I took a screenshot of it:

I believe this is was a short test of a new Google botblock scheme.Thankful People: jlwnetwork -

I'm seeing this now and it's driving me NUTS! I'm using the search box in Firefox and can't seem to get past this. Any other way around it? -
I seem to be getting the same problem results from google and originally from the firefox search box starting today, can we get an OpenDNS staff opinion on this?

I also started having this issue today. -
FWIW I don't have the stated problem. I am using OpenDNS for resolution :
knoppix@orange:~> ping www.google.com
PING google.navigation.opendns.com (208.69.34.231) 56(84) bytes of data.
And navigating to http://www.google.com still working as expected w/o error or warning. I'm thinking the posters who got Google's warning might be due to other than them using OpenDNS; actually the warning is supposed to be issued based on the visitor's IP address (not DNS service) being 'greylisted' by Google (robots, open proxies), although of course they /could/ apply a similar treatment to visitors redirected from OpenDNS. The fact is, they haven't done that to me, yet :) -
I have this problem using the search box in safari or in firefox. If I change to using my DHCP assigned DNS servers, the problem goes away. With OpenDNS servers, I get the verification every time. I can wipe out the google browser cookies, and it goes away for 1 search. Subsequent searches are right back to demanding verification.
-
This happens to me all the freakin time. It pisses me off. It doesn't even ask for a verification code.
-
Still happening to me when I use the Firefox searchbox - any resolution of this?

AdministratorSchamess,
We've made a lot of improvements and fixes that addressed a lot of issues people were seeing back in February. Can you please let us know which site you're going to by following the instructions in http://www.opendns.com/support/article/208
Details of when you saw the issue would be useful as well.
Thanks!
