    Hi guys,

I'm a new opendns user, just testing out whether this will work for our organisation (a church).

However, I'm having a lot of difficulty just using your site! The website loads REALLY slowly, and when it does load, there are no images at all... I'm currently using a web proxy just to submit this.

    Help?

    David.

After some more testing, it would seem that I can talk to opendns.com fine, but the site that loads the images (I think it's something like www-files.opensdns.com) is timing out... I can't ping it.

This is quite often reported here, and there are different solutions. E.g. it could be a certificate or cookie problem.

    Hi,

I've gone through a bunch of the things mentioned in that search, and none fixed the problem...

The only conclusion I can draw is that Bigpond is blocking that particular address...

I can do an nslookup on it, but I can't ping it (ie, nothing to do with browser).
  1.  permalink
if nslookup is returning 208.69.32.142 for it then it's not likely that Bigpond is blocking it..

nslookup is indeed returning an IP (on a diff connection atm, so can't check what it is), so I'll confirm what the IP is when I get in to the office, however while it's retuning an ip, I can't ping that IP ...

Hi there! I have finished downloading Opendns but this site www-files.opensdns.com is timing out. I have read above that this is a common problem. Still dont have a solution for this?

Ok. I opened a support ticket (no response as of yet), because I have the same problem. The pages for this site are not displaying correctly. I've tried the suggestions listed from the search link posted earlier with no luck. Any other solutions?
  3.  permalink
Since last night the web site hasn't been showing any images and has been EXTREMELY slow.

How long does it take for a support ticket to get an anwser?

The website has been horribly slow since yesterday. Settings cannot be changed. Even the site css does not load. There was a server restart messsage yesterday, but whatever was done hasn't solved the issue.

Isn't BigPond an Australian cable internet provider, and what does this have to do with OpenDNS' poor website performance this morning?
All I know is, what's happened with the site layout this morning, and what's with the hesitation, because I just need to tag a domain here!
  5.  permalink
Same here, very slow. The site opens so slow I'm waiting for it to submit a ticket, no go. Maybe someone is DDos-ing the site?
  6.  permalink
I concur, and I am in the UK using Virgin Media.

I can connect to port 80 (tcp) on the server, and retrieve (a blank index.html) but NO CSS (or other files) load - they all time out.

As most of the settings etc are reliant on Javascript/DHTML this makes life a bit hard....

Downloading Opendns? Excuse me? unless you are talking of the updater there is no downloading Opendns, and just downloading the updater wont have you using Opendns.

I'm experiencing a ton of lag from files.opendns.com on my Nuvox T1's, but no lag on an AT&T dsl connection.

Very odd, the site works fine from the dsl connection and renders horribly from my Nuvox connection.

I have bypassed the DNS server setting on this local pc and it is working fine. All other sites working fine and not opendns.com. I have some yet that are not connected with these DNS setting not even getting to this page. It is very odd.

I am also having trouble getting to OpenDNS.com. No graphics show up. I changed my DNS to something other than OpenDNS servers (on my netbook) and i can get to OpenDNS.com without a problem. So i can only get to opendns.com normally if I am not using OpenDns server? WTF?

what's odd is nothing from the openDNS support folks.

Basically, all content being requested from www-files.opendns.com is taking forever. Machine is ping-able, but nothing loads - eg. http://www-files.opendns.com/js/mootools.v1.11.js as an example.

    cicorias...

agreed. where is the support team? i was not able to tag a domain until about 30 minutes ago. suddenly, all the css files and images loaded, and the peasants rejoiced.

not really sure what the problem was for me, but at least i'm able to make my changes now.
  9.  permalink
    Yes, there was much rejoicing.
I've not been able to get the site to load well since yesterday, until just now.
    Woo hoo!
  10.  permalink
I wish I could say the same. The pages still load incorrectly for me. Not sure what the problem is and no response from the Support ticket I submitted yesterday.

Seems to work now. I'm in Canada and I've been having the same problem.

Also, don't know if its related or not, by OpenDNS has been slow as hell the past week or so. I've at times gone back to my ISP DNS addresses out of frustration.

Not working and has not worked for the past 3 hours. Only a plain vanilla version of all web site pages are appearing and these load very slowly. Something is clearly broken at the opendns werbserver end. I hope they are on this....

Now it works great for me. Fast too.

I don't know whats up. I went through a step-by-step breakdown with my ISP, and they said my internet connection was fine.

    Hyperbole alert!

4 hours, 32 minutes just to load http://www.opendns.com!

    /end alert

Of the dozen or so attempts, I cannot ping anything beyond my LAN ... either my name or IP.

Changed my DNS settings just to be able to view and post.

This has been going on for a few days for me and its really annoying. Although I did experience it a few times over the past few weeks.
I get text only in both Firefox and IE and it takes at least two minutes to load a page.
Oddly I do get graphics on SOME forum posts but not the main forum page or anywhere else on opendns.com
I too submitted a ticket and have yet to hear anything.
IE does report a consitsent script error and sometimes 3 or 4 additional script errors

Is everyone at opendns on vacation? or are they just ignoring us?

    Definateley an opendns.com issue.
Maybe we have to pay for the new business/enterprise service to get it working again, or maybe they just don't know what they're doing?

If you can live with simpler pages, you may append the following line to your hosts file:
    0.0.0.0 www-files.opendns.com
This temporary workaround will speed up page loading incredibly.
(However, the pages look like the ones 15 years ago...)

Edit: Just seeing that the issue is solved for me, www-files.opendns.com is loading again.

Seems to be which server is taking the load.... and its round robbin process...

They've got and issue and its route and network related... I'll bet some service they rely on is having issues causing those issues to rebound into their service...

For me. I had the same problem everyone else is reporting, the site feeding the graphics was not working properly, so the site took forever to load and when it did it had no graphics or formatting and none of the scripts worked so I could not change any settings. It magically started working again yesterday after being out for two days. I submitted a ticket, but have not heard anything. The part that is disconcerting is that this was clearly some sort of system outage, but there is no mention of it anywhere on the site.
