i think this is wrong .. if you open ANY ebay.co.uk item it gets blocked as a phishing site .. anything that starts cgi.ebay.co.uk
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Pink-MOTOROLA-RAZR-V3-JAVA-GSM-Cell-Phone-Unlock_W0QQitemZ170390572513QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhones?hash=item27ac11cde1 -
Yeah I've just found this too.
-
Yep, same here. All Ebay UK auctions I get
"Phishing Site Blocked
Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to get you to provide
personal information under false pretenses."
I'm going to have to disable OpenDNS until this is fixed... My girlfriend is furious as she just missed an item she was bidding on! -
i removed Phishing from my list of blocked sites and it seems to be OK now
-
How did you do that, Darren?

Hi
I just realised after having this problem also, I have Open DNS! Don't know how!
So I joined this forum, ...How do I remove Phishing? Where do I find a list of blocked sites?
I'm a newbie to all this so please be gentle!
Granger -
dashboard / settings / click the ip of your network / remove it from the list of blocked stuff

Think Demon Internet must use OpenDNS as I have never implemented it, don't use their DNS servers and have just registered to see what the hell is going on.
I don't intend to start using OpenDNS servers if they can't even determine that cgi.ebay.co.uk is a perfectly valid domain. Luckily I have OnSpeed which is a VPN and can basically bypass this idiocy! -

Thanks Darran,
it appears my account is not confirmed yet, only joined 5 mins ago!
I'll try to access dashboard later.
Granger
ps. I have also found my connection slower with open dns, what's that about? should I post a new thread?
Granger -
Interestingly - entering the same address in the checker at Phishtank.org - the site that powers the OpenDNS phishing filter - comes back as "Verified: Is NOT a phish"... so OpenDNS are screwing something somewhere.

I've just missed out on a Christmas present for the mrs by £60 as I couldn't bid. I've been looking for this gift for 2 years. I am very, very pissed off. -

Is this company linked to Spoofstick, or Comodo Verification Engine?
These are the only spoof site blockers I have, and I want to know how this company has got into my PC. -

There will be many more complainants along soon, this is bloody ridiculous!
Do any of you know how this company managed to do this whilst being unauthorised to do so? -
very nice of them to block my bid on ebay

I've sent in quite a terse (perhaps slightly rude) support request in to OpenDNS.
What a bunch of MUPPETS! -
Everyone post your ISP. OpenDNS doesn't work unless you set it up or your ISP uses it as their DNS service for their customers.

i did -but im more fuming that i need spend time sort that out rather spend time on ebay -
Yep, OpenDNS is to do with your internet not your computer.

Demon have a support centre in Mumbai! They won't weven know what a DNS is - they'll just tell me to 'turn it off and on again'!
I am assuming that Demon (and other ISP's) have OpenDNS with some kind of filtering active? -

that doesnt change anything-still cant go on ebay-i dont care if its my computer on my internet-this is a junk for me -
mine looks like this :
Manage your networks (click on a label to edit)
LABEL IP STATS
Orange 91.104.XXX.XXX
I click on the ip address and it shows me what i have blocked, if you dont see this i dont know how your network is configured .. call opendns and they should be able to help you -

Just glad I've got both Vodafone Mobile Internet AND Onspeed VPN as a backup. I can get around this lunacy by switching OnSpeed on. -

- CommentTimeOct 29th 2009
you are joking! i know that u r trying to help-but im not going spend my time ringing- im too angry right now -
You need to click on "Dashboard" at the very top of this page, then click on the "Settings" tab, there you should see a number written under "IP" (something like XX.XXX.XXX.XXX or similar).
Click on that number and change the filtering level to "None" and wait 5 minutes.
If you don't see any IP address in settings then you'll need to contact your ISP (internet service provider) or the person who setup OpenDNS on your internet.
Hopefully OpenDNS will fix it soon though and you won't need to do that. -
this is ridiculous
-
What's irritating is that there isn't any way to override on the page like 'I know what I'm doing, leave me alone' button.
In any case, I just disabled all phishing protection at openDNS. My ISP's DNS servers are rubbish, and public alternatives are out.
This is a quite an impressive horse up really. I mean, ebay ? Come on chaps, what's gone on ? -
- CommentAuthorvulcanpilot
- CommentTimeOct 29th 2009
Surely if your PC or router is configured to use your ISP's DNS (and most people's will be), then no amount of fiddling in the dashboard will get them unblocked as it's down to their ISP to make the change on THEIR OpenDNS dashboard? -

i did all of that waited more then 5 minutes and still nothing-im going for a fag :) -
Wont let me access ebay items but lets me on to watch porn - how stupid is this, where has all this opendns shit come from all of a sudden???
-
OK I clicked My Account, Settings, then if you haven't added your network click the Add this network button. Then select it from the drop down box Settings For (then your network), then either select None as your filtering level or add the bottom add these two domains and select never block cgi.ebay.co.uk and www.ebay.co.uk
Mine is working now.
good luck,

no i am not joking, if you cant fix it or work out whats wrong you should call them .. they will help you .. thats what they are there for

From above:
If you don't see any IP address in settings then you'll need to contact your ISP (internet service provider) or the person who setup OpenDNS on your internet.
I have never had any dealings with this company, nor configured my PC in any way to work with their software.
From reading other replies, others are in the same boat; we were using ebay and now every page is blocked as a phishing site! I had auctions I wanted to bid on, and now I can't even view the autions.
I'll be beggared if I'm going to change my configurations as suggested to resolve this! -

Hi
I'm new but I disabled open dns for the while by taking the dns numbers out of the DNS servers box in the network prefs (dupliicate, change and save as new name in the location tab)
BTW this is on Mac osx 10.4.

I'm a DDW on ebay - hope it's fixed by 8am GMT -
rsdan123 I know exactly what it does, I fixed mine and I posted a solution
-
If you haven't signed up for OpenDNS and configured it for your network, you should call your ISP and complain.

Got mine sorted, thank god!.
I too only signed up to OpenDNS so I could find out what they had down to my ebay!.
Fixed mine by going to settings, my ip address was already listed in the box so I clicked add as a network, then click on the ip address and it will come up with a thing about filtering levels, I selected None-Nothing blocked and hit apply.
That sorted me out. Now how do I ensure I have no further dealings with OpenDNS in the future?. -

Tar it's your ISP who pays a yearly amount probably to use OpenDNS's DNS servers.
ISPs usually do this as it's (a) cheaper to do plus OpenDNS's servers are a lot better (normally) than the DNS servers individual ISP run themselves. -
