Shortcuts: Shortcuts from 1 PC only

    Hey gang,

    I posted a few months back and still don't have shortcuts working. They work fine from the computer that I setup OpenDNS on but my 4 other PCs don't work. I created shortcuts in the dashboard and the option to "Apply my shortcuts to this network" is checked. My Netgear router is set to .222 and .220 respectively.

    From each PC if I go to http://welcome.opendns.com it shows a check mark but only the main PC goes to opendns opendns, all others goes to "page not found". Each PC is setup the same in TCP/IP properties using dynamic DNS... Blocking of bad sites is working just fine on all PCs.

    I am using Avant Browser 11.7 build 41 on all PCs and have tried IE 7 and IE8

    Any help would be great.

    OK, so now I have IE8 (64bit) working on another PC, I added the default search engine using the links here and now it works. Tried it in the past but was never successful. Time to figure out Avant Browser.

    Still can't get Avant Browser to work, anyone else able to get AB to work?

    OK, on the second PC, Avant Browser now works but only when I enter the shortcut in the search bar and not the URL address bar. The main PC works when I enter the shortcut in the URL address bar.

    Can't seem to find the difference to cause this

    You may have to adjust the settings for the underlying IE installation.
    My suggestion is to ask at
    http://forum.avantbrowser.com/viewforum.php?f=21
    as there is practically no documentation whatsoever.

    If you believe it or not, it is not a prerequisite to use OpenDNS for lookups to make shortcuts work. The only prerequisites are:
    - to define the Guide as the default search engine,
    - to have a dashboard network with updated IP address,
    - to have shortcuts configured in the dashboard,
    - and to have them applied for the network.
    It doesn't matter what DNS service you're using for your lookups.

    I'm not familar with the Avant browser, but if it uses basic underlying Windows/IE settings, as @maintenance suspects, you should apply the necessary settings for/from IE: http://forums.opendns.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=5349
    Especially, enable "Show results in the main window" under "Search from the address bar" (Advanced Internet Options), which should fix your problem with shortcuts working only from the search bar.
