Oh, jeeze! What has happened to this forum?! This is a forum to discuss technical issues with OpenDNS. If you want something to be tagged as porn, use the proper procedure. That is, click on the "Domain Tagging" button above and submit those domains there.

As a clinical psychologist, I can only wonder what kind of person spends all his time searching for porn domains and listing them here.

Several of these sites have been sent to the domain tagging button above without results. Waiting....waiting....waiting....

I came up with these sites by simply searching on the word "porn". Quickly filling up my "blacklist". OpenDNS is advertised as a product to protect my kids from porn.

BTW, my hand is not busy, I am a woman...trying to protect my teenage sons, you jerk.

If you can't do as promised, tell me and I will buy some other product.

    Yep, no problem.

As we start to get more moderators, these sites will be approved a lot faster.

I voted on lots of them too. But they still take time to process through the system.

How many "votes" does it take before they are approved?

If you as a moderater votes yes, does that mean it will get approved eventually?

Sorry for the questions I am sure have already been asked/answered.

It takes a certain amount of votes or a certain percentage for them to come up for moderation.

I know OpenDNS is working on a signup process for moderators, so I'll just leave it at that. I don't want to share anything else just in case I'm saying something I shouldn't. Or in case they modify and change the process.

The amount of votes needed isn't crazy or anything. So chances are if you submit a site on the domain tagging page it will come up for moderation in a reasonable amount of time.

Tell you what - I'll add my votes to those which are not currently up for approval yet, provided that the interested parties list the appropriate domain tagging links.

I'm pretty disinterested in filtering, so I'm not sorting through the entire partially-approved list.

iam curious how does OpenDNS categorize website as porn or not by just the voting and suggesting techniques or having some fillers
the thing is any born website is harmful for children as any other and letting few websites unblocked is like having all unblocked

^^^well, if you go through the domain tagging page under the porn category you notice that a lot of non-porn sites are still be tagged as porn.

Seems like a lot of people classify just about everything that is mildly suggestive as porn.

But, porn is porn. Clear, explicit pornography. I think most of us know exactly what that means. Just because a website is harmful for children doesn't make it pornography.

There are sites out there with horrifying images on there. I would probably consider them harmful for young children too, but they're certainly not porn.

Such websites would be classified as adult themes.

The correct way to vote on porn sites is to go to Community, Domain Tagging, Show undecided domains, choose Pornography, go through over 500000 suggested domains many of which go to places that obviously no longer exist? I hope there is an easier way? I just went through a few pages and can tell the many of these sites which are obvious hardcore porn have votes and are still sitting there?

Please fill me in, I am new to this.

    "But, porn is porn."

Yeah, that's OpenDNS' definition too, but this does not help:
"Anything relating to pornography, including mild depiction, soft pornography or hard-core pornography."

What about to use something like Wikipedia's definition?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography

"Just because a website is harmful for children doesn't make it pornography."

Moreover, I even didn't find any serious scientific reseach saying pornography is harmful for minors. Did you?

^^^doesn't matter what research says. That is a whole different topic for probably a different forum.

We're just trying to figure out what porn is. Or what it isn't.

@brownsl99 - that is exactly the problem. In order to get the lowest rate of false positives you HAVE to go through that process. The whole idea is to get human-verified content. Many of us know what happens when a bot goes and starts tagging and approving sites. A lot of mistakes are made. And I realized that human-verified content leaves a lot of room for mistakes. But we can fix those problems.

The process is being worked on and will be improved in the future. That I know.

Just saying, but you will always have problems like that. Because of the high amount of websites being dumped into 'pornography' a LOT of them will not resolve to anything. Some might not even work at all.

So just vote no so we can get them out of the way.

Hi everyone. I would like your feedback on this: I want to contribute to site voting. I found a couple of parked sites with domain names like (I am making this up): www.youwillfindlotsofporninhere4free.com. When you open the site, is just a parking site, but there is no porn at all, not even in words or images. This is the clasic domain someone buys so it can be re-sell later. I canĀ“t vote with a "yes" because on the site there is no porn at all, but the domain name suggest that someday it will be if bought. So should I vote "yes" to be on the safe side, or should I vote "no" because at the moment there is no porn at all. Some parked sites have suggestive names, like hot-porn-sex-latinas-teen-fuc... whatever.com.

@kakaroto777 - You most certainly can vote yes when the name has no redeeming social value such as you describe here. No one is going to register a domain name like that for a legitimate purpose.

I agree, and I believe I've said it before. Vote Yes or add "Parked Domain" tag for the site. Vote yes on Porn if it is a domain name which really couldn't be used for anything else.

In short, yeah, go for it.
