Does anyone know how to make Opendns work on a Blackberry Curve 8520 using wifi. It works on all my other mobile devices in the home (laptops, ipod) but not on the blackberry - help please.

I don't think there is a way to make a Blackberry use OpenDNS since most of of your internet traffic goes through BlackBerry's proxy servers.

Further, you, or other customers, may experience unexpected behavior when attempting to use OpenDNS filtering while you are using mobile networks or public WiFi. Generally best to not run an updater on such devices when out of the network(s) you own.

The odd part, is that despite using the wifi at home (with opendns on it) the blackberry doesn't seem to recognise it.

Did you configure the OpenDNS server addresses on the blackberry?
If yes, see what @theillusiveman and @maintenance said.
If no, why would you expect the blackberry recognizing OpenDNS? No reason!
Nothing is odd here, all normal and as to be expected.
