    Sure, OpenDNS does not work at all if you're using a proxy or VPN connection. In this case the DNS service configured at the remote end takes effect, of course.

    What else? Did someone say it would work with a proxy?

    Yes, basically when using a proxy or VPN, OpenDNS doesn't receive any DNS queries at all, so they can hardly be blocked.

    Everything goes straight to the proxy or the VPN provider.

    If you are running your own *internal* proxy server, you'd have to configure the OpenDNS addresses there, and not be sending traffic to a remote proxy or IP address where another server is going to direct traffic.
