has anyone had any experience in blocking SETI.

We have a couple of sites with very limited bandwidth and have found some of our users there running SETI. This is affecting normal production work.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

SETI = Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence
Why would one want to block this?

Do you mean the @Home project? SETI@Home?

Best option it to not allow installation of unapproved software (and use of administrator accounts). No BOINC client, no SETI@Home.

I have not sure how these connect to the project server, but you might try blocking setiathome.berkeley.edu

Ah, I see, beside setiathome.berkeley.edu, you'll want to block at least setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu and boinc.berkeley.edu too. Or simply block berkeley.edu if nobody should access any pages of that university.
