Blocked categories are overriding never blocks lists. A tleast when it comes to Yahoo Messenger and yahoo.com I have various categories blocked at work. But I white listed all Sub-domains at one level i.e. example.yahoo.com and msg.example.yahoo.com would be blocked and in stats. Sorry I don't remember all the actual examples. But there were 2 or 3 sub-domains at the second level blocked by category related to Yahoo Messenger. We block Instant messaging category at work with exception to YM.

    Edit:
There were also issues with clients.google.com for safebrowsing.clients.google.com in FF. I never blocked it along with www.google.com this way anti phishing, security certs, etc gets updated. These were also blocked, at one point during the day all of Yahoo and Google were blocked around 9 PST. (these networks had IM, portal & webmail blocked by category) As you can see I only block / unblock one sub-domain deep. To lower usage and make it legible on the screen.

Unblocking yahoo.com & google.com seemed to resolve this
I hope this helps, if I can think of more later I will write.

    the new stats are GREAT!

one thing that drives me nuts though!!!!!

Give us the ability to filter out certain categories.

I get a list of so many damn advertising/adware sites blocked that looking at the blocked sites list is worthless. i need to see if people are going to porn sites, etc, and when there are thousands of ad.adserve.com sites on the list, its impossible to use.

i see you are adding something to only show blocked by blacklist or block by category but i beg you to give me a way to filter out those blocked adware sites!

    Hello!
In my stats page i see:
We’re experiencing some network issues with our website. (Don’t worry, our website is separate from our DNS infrastructure.) Stats will be back soon.

And no stats from time i join (few days ago) is shown. Are status really up?

    Hi,

I'm getting the same "We're currently upgrading our Web site. It was about 10x easier to take the entire site down for a few minutes and make the change than plan a complicated, error-prone transition. DNS is up and running 100% and is unaffected by this upgrade." I've been getting this for days...

(As mentioned in previous thread that existed, due to number of networks?)

Up until David's announcement ;-) on the 9th I had been able to view some form of the Top Domains and Blocked Domains stats. Since the 9th, when I click on Top Domains, or Blocked Domains on the Stats page I'm taken to a completely blank page. I'm using Firefox 3.0.6, with a variety of extensions, but I get the same results if I start Firefox in safe mode, (sans extensions), or if I use (shudder), IE 8 beta 2, so I'm thinking it's not a browser problem... any suggestions as to why I'm getting a blank page rather than stats?

Confirmed, I have this "1" as number one as well. And my former three top domains (VoIP domains of my ISP) disappeared surprisingly, also retrospective, same for other often visited sites. All in all, the stats seem to have become inconsistent. They fixed something in the wrong direction. But I'm optimistic that everything will soon be back. This stats system is fairly new and needs to survive and overcome its baby sicknesses. Let's be patient.

Another thing I have noticed on my network stats is that occasionally, the stats page does not show domains with less than five hits. This seems to occur with on multiple page stat reports. Whether data is provided is from a single day - network, single day - multiple network, multiple days - single network or multiple days - multiple networks. Stats with less than a page usually have everything down to single hit domains.

Also to atest to the inconsistency I have noticed various items missing from the reports. I domains I know are visited & reverse DNS requests (.arpa).

Stats right now are showed in US Pacific time. This is still far from ideal but seemed empirically better than GMT for the largest number of users. Real custom timezone support is really coming, I promise!

I've been hard at work optimizing the system to prevent the "We're upgrading..." message. The solid white pages were a different problem, one which was fixed on Tuesday evening.

I'm going to continue pushing the performance and reliability of this new system. It's a new challenge to go from cold to 9 billion queries per day on a new architecture. Thank you all for being patient and reporting useful bugs. I'd like to think I'll be more active in the forum now that I've had a chance to take a breath.

I know there are a lot of school and corporate folks who have been itching for stats data. I whipped up a little shell script over the weekend to batch-download the CSV version of your Top Domains, which includes all blocked domains information, too. Enjoy! http://github.com/rcrowley/opendns-fetchstats

@hsskc, @sradmin, @rotblitz, etc: The "1" and "0" problem was a glitch that I didn't catch very quickly in the caching policy. I massively changed how domain names are cached and as a result, some keys stepped on each others' toes. I apologize, it will not happen again, now that all of that funk has fallen through the cache. If anyone sees it again, please do let me know.

Thank you for clarifying this! Given the appearance of UTC (aka GMT) on the "main" Stats page, I assumed these were also in UTC and could NEVER understand why things were so "out of sync" with my usage habits.

While I look forward to "real custom timezone support," knowing the current system's time index makes things a LOT easier to understand in the meantime.

Same here, but I've noticed the frequency of getting the "update" page vs getting the requested stats page is reversing. In other words I'm more likely to get the requested stats now, rather than the "update" page. I just assumed it was something that was being worked out over time, seeing as it was slowly getting better.

I'm still working to make things faster and more reliable but in some cases it's a slow process. I'm waiting on a bit more hardware that will address the perpetual not-quite-real-time-iness of the data. There's potential that this will help with the website's occassional (but I'm happy to hear less frequent!) sluggishness. I'm not holding my breath.

@rflynn74: I just checked the counter and show no stats at all for your network though stats are enabled. Are you getting all of the other OpenDNS features on that network? I'm wondering if your IP address has changed or your DNS requests are being handled by a proxy with a different IP address. If we can't figure it out here in the forum, don't hesitate to drop our support guys a line at http://www.opendns.com/support/contact/ .

Is it me or the time on the graph isn't right? I'm located at UTC-5, but the graph shows that the peak period for DNS request is between 4am to 2pm, which is 11pm to 9am at my time. Maybe this caused by the China spammers, because .spamhaus.org was requested 4800 times.
