I have sucessfully entered the OpenDNS addresses on this router, but I also note the router apparently has a dynamic DNS updater server already built into it. In the setup menu it has entries for "domain name," "key name," and "security key." How would I set this menu up to automatically update my OpenDNS (I have already created an account at OpenDNS)???

If you want to provide information as to the exact router (full model #, firmware revision), or the name of the update service it provides, someone may be able to tell you how, if it is possible. Provide a link to the correct manual as well.

Edit: was this provided by Verizon?

    Here's the API: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/88
Domain name is probably your network label, key name and security key is nothing what I knew in any DDNS context, but may be your user name and password. Also, your router must support DDNS updates over SSL.

Yes it is a Verizon supplied device with no manual: Westell 6100 G (G99-610015-00) Rev F ADSL 2+ modem

I can find user guides at Verizon, and it is of no personal interest to me.
You should have it on a CD or in the router firmware as well.
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Networking/User+Guides/User+Guides.htm

Of course, there is no user guide there, but there is the mention of Westell Utilities which should be installed on your computer - check there or the CD for a guide. If you can't find a description or help file in the utilities, or a user guide, you may want to contact Verizon or ask your question in the Verizon forum.

Have you taken a look at the link that rotblitz posted, and noted the criteria for future reference?

--- Finally found the 140 page manual here:
    http://rs43.rapidshare.com/files/174477363/westell-6100-user-guide.pdf

I think you are going to have to give us the verbiage of what you are seeing and under what configuration section it appears, or a legible screen shot, because I don't see anything about DDNS in any Westell manual I've looked at, including the 6100.

What I think is "domain name" = your LAN domain, if you want to use one.
"key name" and "security key" - I see no reference to these in DNS section. These could be your ISP connection information or something else. If Verizon modified the firmware, I have no way to know what is going on with this device.

Edit: This guy doesn't think so-

I finally found a reference to the matter (in regard to a different model Westell that has the same setup page--the screen shot shown is the same one I see) at DSL Reports:

    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20513056-Westall-7500-Dynamic-DNS-Set-up

Apparently the utility only works with a paid account with one particular company.

    Useless!

Yes, you seem to be correct. That would be the ISP Verizon's own firmware installed on the device as sold to their users. (I couldn't even find info on this at their website, though.)

Best to install one of the Updaters then. They do the job.
