I lived in a basement apartment and want to use OpenDNS to filter my web surfing. However, I'm afraid that it'll affect my landlord's computer and network. I only set up OpenDNS on my computer, not my router, but I did create a network in the Dashboard using the IP address that was given to me on the OpenDNS website.

Will this only affect my computer?

Is this (1) your internet connection, i.e. you have the contract with the ISP, or is this (2) the landlord's network, shared by other parties in the same house?

In case of 1: no, it will not affect anything or anyone else, or you don't have to worry, because you are the owner of this network.
In case of 2: yes, it will affect other OpenDNS users (only those) within the same network. In this case you may need to discuss a commonly acceptable filter scheme with these people and to agree who and how the OpenDNS settings are maintained.
(OpenDNS users are individuals having configured the OpenDNS server addresses in their DNS configuration, same as you.)
